Roadway Kernan Blvd

Description

This is a roadway widening project to reconstruct Kernan Boulevard from a four-lane to a six-lane urban roadway between Atlantic Boulevard and Matthew Unger Drive and four lanes from Matthew Unger Drive to McCormick Road. The road will have raised medians, curb and gutter, sidewalks, bike lanes, a 12-foot multi-use path on the eastside of the road and utility improvements.

Status

Plans were completed in February 2017 to a level of 90 percent.  The design includes modification of pond sites and signalization at three intersections.  A fourth light at Waterleaf was added at the request of the City.  Construction Procurement of design-build services is scheduled to begin during the second quarter of 2017 and will be completed during the third quarter of 2017.  Construction should begin during the third quarter of 2017 with anticipated completion in the first quarter of 2020.

Benefits

This will be the last segment of Kernan to be widened. It will enhance pedestrian, bicyclist and motorist safety, reduce congestion, increase mobility, improve drainage and lighting resulting in a healthier community.
